Vans, trailers and permits

  • Vans: Vans (under 5.3 metres), hire vans and pick-up trucks need a free van permit; apply at least 2 working days before your first visit.
  • Trailers: No permit needed for a single-axle trailer; a twin-axle trailer needs a permit.

Before you visit any Greater Manchester tip

  • Free for residents of Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside and Trafford, who can use any of the centres.
  • Wigan residents should use the recycling centres managed by Wigan Council.
  • Visit limits: 52 visits a year in a car (or car with a single-axle trailer); 18 a year in a van, pick-up or with a twin-axle trailer. ANPR cameras monitor visits.
  • Rubble from DIY projects is limited to five (900mm x 600mm) rubble sacks per visit.
  • Asbestos is not accepted at any recycling centre.
  • No pedestrian access; residents on foot can hand a small amount of waste to staff at the entrance.
  • No trade or business waste.
