Vans, trailers and permits

  • Vans: Vans up to 3.5 tonnes, single-cab pick-ups and car-derived vans need a free van permit (3 or 6 visits a year); hire vans up to 3 days are allowed.
  • Trailers: Trailers up to 6' x 4' (1.8m x 1.2m); vans and pick-ups cannot tow trailers.

Before you visit any BCP tip

  • Free DIY allowance (BCP residents): one visit a week with up to 2 x 50-litre bags, or 1 large item up to 200cm x 75cm.
  • Pay by debit or credit card (not American Express), contactless, Apple Pay or Android Pay.
  • For Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole residents: bring ID such as a Council Tax bill, photocard driving licence or utility bill.
  • Pedestrians and cyclists can bring waste (no larger than a bin bag or rucksack) but must report to the security gate with proof of residency.
  • Eligible Dorset Council residents may only bring cars; vans are not allowed.
