We just added 100+ new councils — yours might be one of them

By The BinMinder team

A few weeks ago, checking your postcode on BinMinder had roughly a 6-in-10 chance of coming back supported. As of this week it's better than 9-in-10: we've added more than 100 new councils in a single month, taking us from around 215 to 330 of the UK's roughly 360 bin-collecting councils.

Who's new

The new arrivals span the whole country — every corner of it:

  • Wales — Caerphilly, Carmarthenshire, Monmouthshire, Merthyr Tydfil, Anglesey and more.
  • Scotland — Moray, Clackmannanshire, Inverclyde, East Ayrshire, Dumfries & Galloway, and even Comhairle nan Eilean Siar out in the Western Isles.
  • Northern Ireland — Antrim & Newtownabbey, Fermanagh & Omagh, Mid & East Antrim.
  • England — from Bassetlaw to Bolsover, Cheltenham to Charnwood, Hastings to Herefordshire, Middlesbrough to Mid Sussex, plus London's Hounslow — and dozens more districts in between.

How we did it

Every council publishes bin schedules differently — some as tidy data, some buried three clicks deep behind a postcode form. Alongside our own scrapers, we've integrated the brilliant open-source UK Bin Collection Data project — a community effort, popular with Home Assistant users, that painstakingly maintains connectors for hundreds of council websites. Credit where it's due: their contributors have done heroic work, and we're glad to build on it.

We test every council against real addresses before switching it on, and our health monitors re-check schedules daily — so when a council quietly redesigns its website (they love doing that), we catch it.

Checked before and got "not supported"?

This is the important bit. If you tried BinMinder earlier this year and we couldn't help, the odds have genuinely changed — especially if you're in Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland. It takes about ten seconds to check your postcode again.

Still not covered? Leave your email on the waitlist when you check — another batch of councils (the fiddly ones that need a full browser to read) is already in testing, and waitlisted postcodes are how we pick what to do next.
